Society of Physicians in Vienna
"The Society of Physicians in Vienna was founded in 1837 during the Golden Age of the Vienna School of Medicine. Ignaz Semmelweis, Theodor Billroth, Sigmund Freud and Karl Landsteiner presented their pioneering and groundbreaking findings first to the members of this prestigious medical society.
Since the very beginning the Society of Physicians in Vienna was an independent scientific institution of doctors of all different disciplines. Scientific discussions and lectures took and still take place on a weekly basis and the library contents the most important medical publications of the 19th and 20th century. Besides others it hosts the first volume of the "Lancet" and the "New English Journal of Medicine".
During the last couple of years the Society underwent extensive modernisation and renovation and is considered the Austrian Center of medical scientific communication. Society of Physicians in Vienna will provide temporary membership to all participants of the Vienna Open Medical Institute, access to the library and the online services and serves as a meeting place for international guests."
