"The Open Medical Institute was started when the political landscape in Europe changed. American and Austrian physicians spontaneously agreed to help their colleagues in Central and Eastern Europe, Russia and Central Asia.
The program is based on knowledge transfer, experience exchange and capacity building through seminars, internships and distance learning. Over the past fifteen years it has become the largest program of its kind, training more than 9,000 physicians. More than 1,000 of these physicians have also benefited from observer/internships in Austrian and American hospitals.
The Vienna Open Medical Institute shall provide medical education to physicians and health care professionals in need worldwide."
